About the Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 for 32-bit Support Installer
Why are Adobe® After Effects® and Adobe® Premiere® Pro CS4 products included in my purchase of a CS5 Suite?
Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 and later require a 64-bit edition of Microsoft® Windows Vista® or Windows 7. Customers using a 32-bit edition of Microsoft Windows® will not be able to install or run these applications. Adobe recommends that affected customers upgrade to a 64-bit edition of Windows Vista (Home Premium, Business, Enterprise, Ultimate) or Windows 7 (Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate). However, if this is not possible, Adobe has provided CS4 versions of After Effects and Adobe Premiere Pro to users that have purchased the CS5 or CS5.5 versions of Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection or Production Premium. Adobe® OnLocation™ CS4 and Adobe Encore® CS4 have also been included, to enable certain cross-product workflows. More detailed information about this issue and the CS4 solution can be found by visiting: www.adobe.com/go/32bit_installation

To install the version of Adobe After Effects CS4 and Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 included with your purchase of CS5 or CS5.5 software, you will need a special serial number for them. If you purchased your Creative Suite software on a DVD, the serial number for Adobe After Effects CS4 and Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 is inside your box. If you purchased a downloadable version, your serial number was issued to you from the Adobe Store when you purchased.
1. Before you install, close all applications currently running on your system—including other Adobe applications, Microsoft Office applications, and browser windows. It is also recommended to temporarily turn off virus protection during the installation process.
2. You must have administrative privileges or be able to validate as an administrator.
Recommended: If you are upgrading from Production Premium CS4 or Master Collection CS4 you should continue to use the current installation of Adobe After Effects CS4 and Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 (including OnLocation CS4 and Encore CS4). It is not necessary to continue these installation steps.
3. Do one of the following:
- Insert the Suite Content Disc into your DVD drive. Browse to the DVD drive in Windows Explorer and double click on the folder with the name 'Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro CS4 for Win 32 bit.' Then, double click on Setup.exe and follow the on-screen instructions.
- If you purchased from the web, you will also be given a download link specifically for the Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro CS4 installer. Download those files to a folder on your computer and double click on the .exe. The files will self-extract and the installer will launch automatically. If the installer does not launch automatically, open the folder that the self-extractor created, double-click Setup.exe, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
IMPORTANT: Be sure to install all updates for your applications. (Choose Help > Updates.) These updates fix many problems and bugs.
Known installation issues
- Pressing the Cancel button during the installation process will stop the installation but will not remove the files already installed (Issue #1826115) To remove all the files and components that were already installed before cancelling, follow the Uninstall steps outlined in this document. You must follow the uninstall steps if you want to attempt to reinstall.
- The uninstall process will remove any custom folders added to the installed application folders. (#BG69109)
- Please note some files will remain on your system following an uninstall of Creative Suite 4 applications.
- Failure to start After Effects on non-US versions of Windows. On some non-US versions of the Windows operating system, After Effects fails to start, with an error referring to the absence of the WMVCore.dll library. After the initial failure to start, After Effects will no longer try to load this library so subsequent attempts to start the application will be successful. (#1835929)
- Encore cannot be launched in Trial mode. When Encore is installed without a serial, the serialization dialog appears and you must enter a valid serial number.
- Adobe OnLocation will crash on launch if installed into a Read Only directory (#1855359)
- The “Total Size” displayed in the installer Options screen includes space required for components required for the installation but not shown in the component list, so the number may not equal the listed components size. (#BG059229)
Note: In order to install additional components or reinstall your software after your original installation, you will need access to the original installer (CD, DVD or the download from the web).Repair is not an available option.
- Before you uninstall, close all applications currently running on your system—including other Adobe applications, Microsoft Office applications, and browser windows.

All font related documentation is online. Visit http://www.adobe.com/type/browser/landing/creativesuite/creativesuite4.html to find our OpenType User Guide, OpenType ReadMe, links to font specific readmes, listings of fonts installed by the products, and listings of fonts included on DVD for each of the CS4 products.
The installer installs fonts into a default system font directory. Many of these fonts are newer versions of fonts installed by Creative Suite 3 If the installer finds older versions of these fonts in the default system font directory, it will uninstall the older versions, and save them to a new directory. The default system font directory is:
Mac OS: <System Disk>/Library/Fonts
Windows: <System Disk>:WindowsFonts
The older fonts will be saved in the new directory:
Adobe After Effects Cs4
Mac OS: <System Disk>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/SavedFonts/current
Windows: <System Disk>:Program FilesCommon FilesAdobeSavedFontscurrent
This new directory will also contain a file named 'Read Me.html' which lists the saved fonts, and the version numbers of the new and old font files.
You can re-install the older fonts by deleting the new font files from the default system font directory, and moving the old files back into that directory.
There are additional fonts on the installation disc. For information on installing these fonts, see http://www.adobe.com/go/learn_fontinstall_en.
