OpenSSH is a background system that allows you to connect to your iPhone over wifi and transfer files from your computer to your iPhone. Note: No icon will appear for this app.

OpenSSH includes a range of components and tools designed to provide a secure and straightforward approach to remote system administration, including: sshd.exe, which is the SSH server component that must be running on the system being managed remotely ssh.exe, which is the SSH client component that runs on the user's local system. You need to ssh over USB. They are several options but the easiest is to use iproxy. Brew install libimobiledevice. On the terminal now run the following command. This will enable you to forward all traffic from port 2222 to port 22 over USB. Now you can connect to the iPhone by running ssh. Ssh root@localhost -p 2222. Using WinSCP to SSh into iPhone. So by now we have installed openSSH into iPhone, we have also obtained your iPhone IP and now next step is to install a free SSH client on your Windows system and connect to your iPhone. Download and install WinSCP here.Once you are done installing WinSCP, open it in the IP field add your iPhone IP and for username use this credential. If you want to transfer some files to your iPhone / iPad on Windows, you will have to SSH into your iDevice to gain the access to root folders. Type ssh root@iphoneipaddress (substitute the iphone’s IP address for iphoneipaddress. Get this by opening SBSettings and looking at the “wifi” field. It is a number with 3 periods such as 10.2.2.24). The password is “alpine” (without the quotes).

Below are instructions for iPhones, iPads and the iPod touch. Note: You will need wireless internet to use OpenSSH.

SSH Instructions
1. You will need to have your device jailbroken in order to SSH into your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. For more information on Jailbreaking, please see our F.A.Q. Page.

2. When you jailbreak your device, the Cydia application will be added to your Home Screen with the rest of your applications. You will want to go into Cydia and search for the OpenSSH application. If it is not already installed, you will need to install it.

3. Then you will need some type of SSH client installed on your computer. WinSCP is great for PCs. Macs come with SSH but if you’d like some alternatives check here.

4. To sign into your device, the Host Name is the iPhone’s IP address which you can find by going into your Settings application on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and then into the Wi-fi option, click on the little arrow next to the Wi-Fi you are connected to and find the IP address. The username is root and password is alpine (no capitals). Don’t worry about the Private key file, you don’t need to put anything there.

5. On some SSH or FTP programs, you will need to change the File Protocol to SCP. The default is most likely SFTP. Just select the arrow next to the option and select SCP.

6. Hit login.

Helpful Hints:
– The first time you connect it might take longer than usual, about 30 seconds.
– You’re iPhone, iPad or iPod touch must stay turned on while using OpenSSH, so it’s recommended disable autolock.
– You’re iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and computer must be on the same network, ssh connects via wifi.

Instructions for older devices and firmware.

Firmware 2.x and 3.0 (excluding the iPhone 3GS):
1. You will need to have a jailbroke iPhone or iPod Touch in order to SSH into your iPhone or iPod Touch. For more information on Jailbreaking, please see our F.A.Q. Page.

The username is root and password is alpine for v1.1.1 and newer, for older versions the password is dottie. Don’t worry about the Private key file, you don’t need to put anything there.
